Abida Ijaz Foundation

Lahore, Pakistan

The Abida Ijaz Foundation is a welfare organization in a neglected area of Lahore Pakistan, known as Amen Park located at Ravi Road near Datta Darbar. People in this area have no basic health and/or education facilities. The Abida Ijaz Foundation is providing basic health facilities to women who have gynecological problems and who need pregnancy checkups and guidance. The Foundation also has a Sewing Center there where poor women can earn some wages.

Amin Maktab

Amin Maktab was established in 1962 as a Special Education Center under the auspices of the Pakistan Society for the Welfare of Mentally Retarded Children.  Amin Maktab (the outreach program) was started in 1991 to provide outreach services to the homes of children with mental retardation residing in economically depressed areas especially the kachi abadis (poor makeshift communities) of Lahore.


Gulab Devi Chest Hospital

Lahore, Pakistan

Gulab Devi Chest Hospital is one of the oldest and largest Cardiothoracic Hospitals in South Asia. It was established in 1934 by British Indian politician Lala Lajpat Rai in  memory of his mother, Gulab Devi, who died due to tuberculosis in 1927.  It specializes in the treatment of respiratory diseases, particularly tuberculosis. SWA contributes to this hospital through the Abdul Razzaq Charitable Foundation, Inc.

Maryland Leadership Workshop (MLW)

Chestertown, Maryland

The MLW program works with middle and high school students in Maryland and throughout the region. Through peer-led facilitation this program inspires participants to be engaged and involved and empowers them with the skills and confidence to make a difference in their schools and communities.  The workshops are held at the Washington College in Chestertown, MD.

The Pakistan Society for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled (PSRD) is a non-profit, charitable organization established in 1957 in Lahore, Pakistan, providing a wide range of affordable medical, surgical, educational and rehabilitation services to people with physical disabilities. In 1963 PSRD with the help of two research projects approved by the Govt. of Pakistan and by the US Government under the PL-480 Program enabled the organization to set up a multipurpose Physiotherapy Department and a workshop for fabrication of Prosthetics and Orthotics. PSRD caters particularly to people coming from the low income sector who are unable to access these services elsewhere.

The Muslim Community Center (MCC) Medical Clinic opened its door on June 14, 2003 with a commitment to provide high quality basic healthcare services to the uninsured adult population of our community. Patients of all backgrounds are welcome. The MCC continues to provide direct financial aid to those patients who are unable to pay for the diagnostic tests and medicines needed.  The Clinic does not refuse service to any patient who is financially unable to afford a copayment.

The Muslim Community (MCC) Refugee English Program helps adult refugees in our area to improve their English language skills. Currently has over 45 active volunteers teaching  English once a week for an hour to a refugee student in their home.  English Classes are also held twice a month in Riverdale, Maryland.  Training is offered 3-4 times a year at the MCC to help volunteers plan lessons and find free material on the internet. Tutors can also meet at a luncheon held once every 2-3 months at the MCC to discuss and share their experiences. 


University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Scholarship Program

Lahore, Pakistan

Thirty-three (33) students have been supported by the UET Scholarship Program. Sponsored students must pass all their classes to qualify to receive a scholarship during the next semester. Future goals are 1) to continue the scholarship program for the remaining students until graduation, 2) find mentors for the students, 3) sponsor/find internships/part time jobs for these students, and 4) sponsor lecture programs for the UET alumni traveling to Pakistan/UET.

Urgent Care Clinic Dispensary in Model Town

Lahore, Pakistan

Established in 1986, within the compound of Model Town Ladies Club, Lahore, Pakistan, the current Health Center / Dispensary was built in 2010 on land donated by Model Town. The center provides consultation, medicines and referral to patients. The charges are based on need. Those unable to pay are treated free of cost. Volunteer as well as paid doctors work at the center
